Graffiti

How it can be eradicated

Aerosol art and other forms of street art are now considered forms of artistic expression in their own right. But only when conducted legally and in places where permission has been granted. Illegal graffiti (regardless of its artistic merits) is not accepted by City Of Prospect and we are proactive in its elimination.

City of Prospect works closely with residents and businesses through-out the council area to ensure that action can be taken quickly on any unwanted graffiti. Response times are proven to be a large factor in reducing repeat occurrences and are a focus of Council’s approach to graffiti eradication.

Removing Graffiti

If you experience unwanted graffiti on your property, the best course of action is to act quick. Not having anything to “show off” can discourage offenders from offending in the same location again. First, try scrubbing the graffiti off with a brush, scourer and soapy water. If that doesn’t work, you can try fluids such as turpentine or paint thinner, but these can be hazardous, so you must read and follow the safety instructions.

If you have left over paint from anything painted on your property, keep it and use it to paint straight over the graffiti straight away. You may need to seal the graffiti first, and your local paint or hardware store can provide you with an appropriate product for this.

Free Graffiti Removal Kits

Council also offers free graffiti removal kits. If you would like one, please complete the form and return it to us:
