Council Elections

Participating in your Council election is one of the most direct ways that you can make a difference to everyday life in your community.

Enrol for the Local Government Elections 2018   Voting in Council elections is open to a broader range of people than State and Federal elections, including non-Australian citizens, non-resident landlords and businesses. 
Enrolments closed at 5pm on 10 August 2018.

Who can vote?

Eligibility to vote in council elections is broader than in State and Federal elections.  The following people over the age of 18 are eligible to vote:

  • Residents (for at least one month)
  • Sole owners/occupiers of a rateable property
  • Not Australian citizens but are residents (for at least one month)
  • Landlords of rateable properties
  • Business owner (individual or group) or occupier of rateable property.
